Western products for the 10 step Korean skin care routine

This is for those of you that are interested in Korean skin care but don't have access to the Korean brands and products. I will be listing some of the western products available that can be used, instead of the Korean products in a 10 step skin routine.

STEP 1 - Oil cleanse:
This first step in the routine is to break down any make up and sun screen that is on your skin.
Example:
Banila Co. Clean it zero

- Coconut oil
This is a brilliant alternative to a cleansing balm, and is what I personally use as an oil cleanser.
Available in most supermarkets, prices vary.

- Superdrug vitamin E dual phase cleansing oil
£2.99 150ml

- Burts bees facial cleansing oil with coconut + Argan oil
£16.99 177ml

STEP 2 - Water based cleanser:
This step is for cleansing your actual skin now that and makeup and SPF has been removed. Personally I have dry and dehydrated skin so I go between using foam cleansers and cream cleansers.
Example:
Neogen cranberry foam cleanser

- Garnier honey flower cleansing milk
£3.49 200ml

- Simple kind to skin vital vitamin foaming cleanser
£4.94

- Body shop vitamin E cream cleanser
£7.50 250ml

- No7 beautiful skin foaming cleanser
£9.50 150ml

STEP 3 - Toner:
The purpose of toning is to restore your skins pH balance after cleansing, also removing some of the dead skin cells and prepping your skin for the skin care you will be applying.
Example:
Etude House Wonder pore freshener

- Nivea daily essentials refreshing toner
£1.88 200ml

- L'Oréal Paris fine flowers toner
£5.99 400ml

- Clarins tonique lotion with chamomile
£21.90 400ml

STEP 4 - Essence:
This one was tricky. Trying to find a good, affordable, accessible western essence has proven to be quite the task. An essence is a thin, watery product that absorbs quickly into the skin, providing a boost of hydration. An essence will also promote cell turnover, improving the texture of your skin.
Example:
Missha time revolution the first treatment essence

- M&S formula restore boosting essence water
£12.50 100ml

- Elizabeth Arden ceramide youth restoring essence
£15.95 140ml

- Caudalie concentrated brightening essence
£25.50 150ml

STEP 5 - Serum:
Serums are an excellent step to include in your skin care routine. This step is where you can really personalise it to your skin care needs. Serums provide a concentrated boost of active ingredients. There is a serum out there for all your skin care needs be it hydration, anti ageing, firming, pigmentation etc.
Example:
IOPE essential skin boosting serum

- Superdrug simply pure hydrating serum
£2.99 50ml

- B. Nourished advance serum
£7.19 30ml

- Dr. Organic Rose otto facial serum
£13.99 30ml

STEP 6 - Emulsion:
The purpose of this step is to provide another layer of moisture and hydration. Although this step isn't always seen as essential, you will definitely see a difference in your skin if you include it. An emulsion is a light lotion which means it has a thinner texture, absorbs quickly and layers well with other skin care.
Example:
Etude House moistful collagen emulsion

- Avon clearskin professional facial emulsion
£3.90 50ml

- Avene cleanance MAT emulsion
£11.99 40ml

- Elizabeth Arden millennium day renewal emulsion
£14.95 75ml

STEP 7 Moisturiser:
Lighter and heavier textures of moisturiser can be used depending on your skins needs. Moisturisers with additional benefits such as brightening, firming, nourishing etc. can be used, again depending on your skins needs.
Example:
Tony Moly panda's whitening cream

- Simple kind to skin protecting moisture cream
£3.45 50ml

- First aid beauty ultra repair cream
£10 56.7g

- Embryolisse lait creme concentre
£15 75ml

STEP 8 eye cream:
This step can be used to target many of the issues we get around the eyes such as; dark circles, fine lines, puffiness or dryness etc. It is important to use a separate eye cream to your moisturiser, as the skin around your eyes is delicate and sensitive. Eye creams are specially formulated to be gentle on this delicate area.
Example:
Innisfree the green tea seed eye cream

- Superdrug vitamin E eye cream
£2.99 15ml

- Nip+Fab no needle fix eye cream
£7.45 15ml

- Olay eye collection ultimate cream
£14.99 15ml

STEP 9 - SPF:
This step is for your AM routine only. SPF is a very important step to include in your morning routine as this will protect you from the damaging UV rays. Sun damage can lead to many skin problems and protection should be used.
Example:
Neogen dermalogy day light protection sunscreen screen

- Malibu face sun cream high protection SPF30
£2.99 40ml

- Neutrogena clear face sunblock liquid lotion SPF30
£11.99 88ml

- Clarins Sun wrinkle control cream for face SPF50
£18 75ml

STEP 10 - Masks and sleeping packs:
This is where things get fun. There are so many masks available that we are spoilt for choice. Below is a list some of my favourites. Also sleeping packs are a brilliant last step in your night time skin routine. They provide a protective and moisturising layer for you throughout the night. DO NOT forget to wash it off in the morning otherwise all the bacteria and toxins from the night will be held against your skin. This can lead to clogged pores and break outs.
Example:
Any sheet masks
Laneige water sleeping mask

Sheet masks:
- Boots ingredients sheet face mask (all of them)
£2.50

- Oh K sheet masks (all of them)
£3

- Origins flower infusion hydrating sheet masks (all of them)
£5

- Garnier skin active moisture bomb tissue mask (all of them)
£2.99

Cream/clay masks:
- L'Oréal Paris pure clay mask (all of them)
£5 50ml

- Superdrug (own brand) face masks (all of them) £0.49-£1

- The Body Shop British rose Amazonian acai energising radiance mask
£16 75ml

Sleeping packs:
- B. Radiant over night mask
£5.95 50ml

- The Body Shop vitamin E sink in moisture sleeping mask
£11 100ml

- L'Oréal White perfecting total recover sleeping mask
£21.99 50ml
